Cultivation Targets:This major cultivates innovative, applied, and cross-cutting students with a solid foundation in mathematics and finance, good computer operation and software programming skills, outstanding problem analysis and problem solving skills, and integration of theoretical knowledge, applied knowledge, and technical skills. It is able to provide financial objects and applied research such as product development and pricing, risk management, decision consulting, investment and financial management for financial institutions such as banks, insurance, securities, foreign trade, logistics, commerce and other enterprises and institutions, as well as relevant government departments and scientific research institutions.
Major Overview: Well-known professors from North Carolina State University, Middle Tennessee State University and other foreign schools to serve as professor at Sir Yue-Kong Pao lecture, and the school hired foreign teachers to teach students pronunciation and western history and culture courses. The major began to recruit international students in 2016, and currently there are 35 international students studying in this major.
Excellent student cultivation quality: Financial engineering students won the gold medal in the 2016 Youth National College Student Entrepreneurship Competition, the 2016 Challenge Cup College Student Entrepreneurship Planning Competition, and silver medal in the 2016 China "Internet +" National College Student Entrepreneurship Competition, the gold medal in 2020 China "Internet +" National College Student Entrepreneurship Competition. In the past two years, the students won 1 national first prize and 3 second prizes in the National College Student Mathematical Contest in Modeling, and second prize in the American College Student Mathematical Contest in Modeling. In addition, many financial engineering students participated in the Zhejiang’s university Student Securities Investment Contest and the Zhongjin Cup Futures Knowledge Contest, and all achieved good results.
Open education: The school have cooperated with a number of institutions to jointly cultivate talents, and many students have applied to study for master's degree in famous foreign universities after graduation.
Employment After Graduation: With the continuous development of the financial industry in China, especially the expansion of innovative businesses and innovative models, the market's demand for financial talents is increasing. In addition, the current financial industry continues to develop mixed operations, and financial compound talents are vital to the future business development of financial institutions. Previous financial engineering graduates have basically worked in the government, banks, securities, insurance and futures companies, with an employment rate of 100%.
Postgraduate Entrance Examination: The financial engineering students can apply for financial engineering, insurance actuarial, statistics, finance, quantitative economics majors and other fields. Eight of the first graduates are studying for master's degree at Fudan University, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Northeast Normal University, University of Edinburgh, City University of Hong Kong and other domestic and foreign universities. The acceptance rate for postgraduate entrance examinations is 32%. Among the 2020 graduates, 53.85% of students went to the U.S. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Southern California, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and other prestigious universities to study for a master's degree. The average admission rate of this major is close to 40%.
