On April 10th, President Cai Ronggen and his delegation visited the School of Mathematics and Statistics for a research and discussion. The School's leaderships attended the meeting, and the secretary of the School's party committee, Huo Yan, presided over the meeting.
At the meeting, distinguished dean Qu Changzheng gave a detailed introduction to the current status of the School's disciplines and majors in terms of development history, teaching staff, scientific research, talent cultivation, and local services. Later, both parties exchanged and discussed the future development, existing problems, and difficulties of the School.
After the reporting from the School, Cai Ronggen highly recognized the work of the School. He pointed out that the construction of the School should focus on two teams, that one is the administrative management team, and the other is the full-time faculty team, both of which are indispensable. The construction of mathematics discipline should emphasize "precision", with the goal of "one person acts as a character, one person aims at a direction". At the same time, he emphasized that in the future, the School should pay more attention to the balance of disciplinary development, enhance the attraction of high-level talents, actively build a rich pool of young talents, layout the construction of basic research platforms in advance, and continue to strengthen international cooperation and exchange.
